What is Mimosie?+

Mimosie is a student-run platform that connects dress owners with students looking to rent outfits for events in Stellenbosch. We also list photographers and suit hire. Think of it as a shared wardrobe — built by students, for students.

How does renting work?+

Browse listings, find something you love, and send a request to the owner. From there, you chat directly (in-app or via WhatsApp) to arrange try-ons, pickup, return, and payment. Mimosie connects you — the rental itself is between you and the owner.

Does Mimosie handle payments?+

No. All payments for rentals are handled privately between the renter and the owner. Mimosie is a connection platform only — we don't process rental payments, handle logistics, or manage disputes.

How do I list a dress?+

Create an account, then tap "Upload" in the navigation. Add photos, set your price, and fill in the details. Your listing will go through a quick moderation check before it goes live.

Is listing free?+

Right now, all listings are completely free during our launch promotion! Once the promotion ends, you get 2 free dress listings and 1 free suit listing. After that, there's a small upload fee per listing to help keep the platform running.

What events is Mimosie for?+

House dances, cocktails, semi-formals, 21sts, year-end functions — any occasion worth dressing up for. You can filter by occasion when browsing.

What is Spread the Love?+

Spread the Love is our charity initiative. When browsing or listing on Mimosie, you can choose to support a local charity — whether through direct donations, donating clothes, or supporting through a dress listing. It's our way of giving back to the Stellenbosch community while you get ready for your next event.

How do schedules work?+

We know how hectic dance season gets, so we've made managing availability easy. Owners can mark specific dates as unavailable on their dresses, suits, and photography listings. This way, renters can instantly see when something is free — no back-and-forth needed.

Can I pause my listing?+

Yes! If you're not available for a while or just want to take a break, you can set your listing to inactive from your My Dresses page. It won't show up in browse results, but all your details are saved — just reactivate it when you're ready.

Do dresses require a deposit?+

Only if the owner specifies one. Some owners ask for a deposit to secure a booking — this is arranged directly between you and the owner. Mimosie doesn't handle deposits or any rental payments.

How do I contact a dress owner?+

On the dress detail page, tap "Send Request" to start a conversation. If the owner has enabled WhatsApp sharing, you'll also see that option after connecting.

Is my phone number visible?+

No. Phone numbers are never displayed publicly. WhatsApp sharing is completely opt-in — only owners who choose to share will have that option visible.

What if I have a problem with a rental?+

Since rentals are arranged directly between users, we encourage both parties to communicate clearly upfront — agree on price, condition, return date, and any deposit. If someone behaves inappropriately, you can report them through the platform.

Do I need to be a Stellenbosch student?+

Mimosie is designed for the Stellenbosch student community, but anyone can browse and create an account. Just note — you must be 18 or older to use the platform.

How do I delete my account?+

Go to your profile settings and select "Delete Account." This will remove your profile, listings, and all associated data in compliance with POPIA.
